Wherever you are in your creative journey, the team at Poetica Press is here to support your work. Editing services, writing coaching and mentoring, book layout and design, and consultation for artistic portfolios and submissions are all within our wheelhouse. Below are a few of our service packages, though we love opportunities to craft custom approaches to best suit your individual needs.

Mentorship & Creative Partnership

Manuscript and portfolio review: We’ll provide guidance on your manuscript draft or artistic portfolio of work including thematic feedback, identifying overall tendencies, and offering suggestions for areas to explore and ways to strengthen the work as a whole. ($275 for up to 35,000 words or 30 images.)

Regular coaching and mentorship: These are one-on-one coaching sessions to provide feedback for literary material (novels, memoirs, essays, etc.) and artist portfolios. These sessions are flexible in nature. In the past, we’ve had clients use them for reviews and critiques, brainstorming and ideation, goals and accountability, overall writing, revision support and publishing support, submission advice for artist grants and contests, gallery submissions, and marketing and promotions guidance. The goal here is to have a trusted partner along the creative journey to help champion you toward your specific goal. ($500/month includes bi-weekly phone calls, emails, or video/audio recording with detailed monthly critique of new work or revisions of up to 5000 words.)

Detailed manuscript consultation: An outside perspective helps all of us take a step back and see our work with fresh eyes. Once you have a complete written manuscript (memoir, novel, a compilation of essays/short stories, etc.) one of our professional writers or educators will thoroughly review your work and provide in-depth written feedback which includes: addressing overall feedback on craft, character development, plot, general themes, and a careful line-edit of up to 1,500 words (section to be chosen by either the writer or editor). We follow-up with a 60-minute phone or video call (or an in-person meeting when it’s safe and possible) to discuss your work and our feedback. ($1500 for up to 75,000 words) From there, we can discuss ongoing coaching and editing, as well as the road to publication and/or design as desired.

Editing, Feedback & Revisions

Editing and publication prep: Similar to mentoring but with an emphasis on doing versus guiding. This can take a few different directions depending on your goals including editing later-stage drafts, copyediting manuscripts before they go to press, laying out a manuscript, magazine, or portfolio, and generally helping you get from a solid draft to publication-ready. Rates are dependent on project size and timeline.

Hourly editing and feedback: If you just need someone to read, copyedit, or provide feedback on an essay, blog post, short story, application, or letter—or if you’d like one or two coaching calls but don’t need ongoing monthly conversations—our hourly rate is $75. For an estimate of time and cost, please get in touch about your specific project and needs.

Design, Layout & Publishing

Below are descriptions of a variety of services we offer through Poetica Press. We take a bespoke approach to all projects as we believe it best serves the heart of a writer or artist's work. Please get in touch to discuss the details of your project, budget, and timeline.

Book design and layout: Our team has a long history in branding and design with a unique view of how to use visual language to support the written word. From creating book covers to laying out books and magazines (including choosing sizes, fonts, header/footers, and overall styling). 

Self-publishing support: Self-publishing allows you to keep 100% of the rights, profits, and control of your work—we can assist in all steps of the process including revision and copyediting your final draft, book design and layout for print and digital publication, and setting up your books for distribution through global networks like Amazon and Kindle.

Website Design & Layout: Website architecture, copywriting, design, and build of author/artist websites to define your personal brand.

Marketing & Promotion

Create and design marketing materials: Promotional materials for your publication including announcement postcards, social media templates, formatted excerpts for reviewers and submissions to bookstores and libraries, social media templates, (virtual) book tour marketing plans, and more.

Publishing with Poetica Press

If your work is a good fit for Poetica Press, we are happy to discuss publishing the work ourselves—please send an inquiry specifically for submitting work for publication here. We publish a limited number of manuscripts and artists’ books each year.
